PHIL 382H-01 Ethics,  Dr. Tim Schoettle   

(Honors Ethics / Worldview / Pluralism course)

TR: 10:30-11:45 am

This course covers several major metaethical views including consequentialism, Kantian deontology, and virtue theory. Besides introducing some of the primary questions addressed within metaethics, this course is designed to help students develop their abilities to read, explicate, analyze, and evaluate philosophical literature, write and express themselves well about their own ethical positions, and think critically and analytically about ethical issues.

 

COMM 327H-01 Latin American Cinema, Dr. Fabrizio Cilento

(Honors NonWestern course)

MWF: 10:00-10:50 am

This course examines the evolution of Latin American cinema over the past thirty years, including examples from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, and Chile, whose production representational strategies are both global and local. Issues explored include recent histories of military dictatorship and current struggles for economic development, democratization, and human rights.

 

IDST 300H-01 Stress & Health, Dr. Jennifer Thomson      

(Honors Science Tech & the World course)

What impact does stress have on the physiological, psychological, sociological and spiritual health of an individual and how can the response to stress be controlled? This course will present an overview of the effects of psychological stress on the body including its nature, physiology, role in disease, and impact on one’s health and wellness.

 

HONR 497 Senior Honors Seminar, Dr. Jim LaGrand

(One of the ways to fulfill the senior honors requirement)

M: 6:00-9:00pm

The topic for this seminar is “Christendom and its legacies: What should we think about the influence of the church on politics, society, and culture?” In the wake of data showing increased disengagement from and skepticism toward the church, students will evaluate and respond to a range of views about the church both historically and in contemporary times.

Note:  

  • There will be at least one section of HONR 497 offered each semester
  • HONR 497 fulfills the Honors Program requirement for the Senior Honors requirement.
  • It does not meet an ID World Views requirement. 
  • This course is open to Juniors and Seniors.
