ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ announces the creation of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Cyber Center
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ is excited to announce the creation of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Cyber Center, slated to open fall 2022 in Frey Hall. A complement to the cybersecurity major at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, the new Cyber Center will be a hub for cybersecurity students, regional professionals and local industries to meet for education and consulting services.
The creation of the Cyber Center is a key piece of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s pursuit in becoming designated as a NSA Center for Academic Excellence – Cybersecurity Defense Education (CAE-CDE), a distinctive hallmark of excellence for cybersecurity education. ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ is currently in the program management phase of the program.
“The Cyber Center at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ will focus on improving the education and training of future cyber defense professionals,” said Vinny Sakore, director of cybersecurity information at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. “It will enhance the capabilities of educational, private and governmental sectors through training, education, services and outreach.”
Experiential learning is one of the pillars of a ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ education. During a student’s final two years at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, they will use the fully equipped Cyber Center to perform real-world, hands-on work by providing security monitoring, digital forensics and data recovery services to local and regional businesses. Those businesses will have the opportunity to receive affordable and reliable security services while helping to build future cybersecurity professionals.
