Guest Artist Recital, Dr. Andy Wen, Saxophone

Dr. Andy Wen is a retired music professor and is currently teaching privately and actively performing. In performances including concertos with bands and orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber concerts, he has performed in twenty-five states and twelve countries. He has premiered five concertos that were written for him and has recorded two CDs.

Andy presented the first saxophone recital in the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan; was the 1990 MTNA National Collegiate Artist Competition winner; has performed at conferences of thirteen different organizations; taught master classes across the United States, China and Taiwan; been published multiple times in the Saxophone Symposium; was a featured Guest Artist in the Saxophone Journal; is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers; was a finalist for the Alpha Chi “Teacher of the Year Award”; and was a two-term Treasurer of NASA. He previously taught at Del Mar College where he was Department Chair; Millersville University; the Universities of Arkansas at Monticello and Little Rock. Several of his students are currently teaching at universities.

Andy has premiered over sixty solo and chamber compositions including those by David Baker, Larry Bell, Robert Boury, Sy Brandon, James Chaudoir, Neil Flory, Fred Fox, Michel Fuste-Lambezat, Karen Griebling, John Harbison, David Kechley, Christian Lauba, L.A. Logrande, Kevin McKinney, Joshua Reed, Allyn Reilly, William Vollinger, Dalen Wuest and many others. Most of these works were written for him.

Wen received degrees studying with Jean-Marie Londeix, Eugene Rousseau, Kenneth Fischer, and Allyn Reilly.

Andy Wen is a Lefreque Featured Artist and a Conn-Selmer Clinician playing Selmer (Paris) saxophones.
