Why did you choose this graduate program?
I chose James Madison's PA program because I liked the smaller class size, better faculty to student ratio, personalized clinical site placements, location, and the program's overall mission statement. I also loved the close association they had with the free clinic that serves the community and that they provide us opportunities to go to
the clinic during our didactic year prior to clinical rotations.
What does your typical day look like/what responsibilities do you have?
I am currently taking 20 credits, so I am in class most of the day and then come home and study. Next semester we start rotating through the free clinic in addition to our classes.
Why did you choose this degree at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ College?
I chose Biochemistry at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ College because I loved science and loved the integrative nature of both biology and chemistry into one major. I took a biochemistry class in high school that solidified that is what I wanted to study in college. At ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, I was impressed with the Chemistry department, the curriculum, and the faculty.
How did your ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ College degree prepare you for this career?
The biochemistry degree prepared me for the rigor of pursuing a master's degree in physician assistant studies. It provided me with a strong understanding of what happens in the body at the chemical level and strong analytical skills. The mentorship the faculty provided in the Chemistry Department also helped me grow and mature as a student, Christian, and overall person. My education at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ was invaluable to preparing me for life outside of college and as a student pursing a MPAS.
Is there any specific advice you would offer someone pursuing or considering
this degree?
Utilize the faculty when trying to understand concepts and learn. They are there to help and want to help you succeed. Also, learn from them as people. They are some of the best mentors anyone could ask for in all areas of life outside of academia. Study hard as the degree is difficult, but very rewarding!
